SUPPORTING CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES IN THE HEAD START PROGRAM

Objectives: This workshop will give teachers strategies that will successfully include children with disabilities into the Head Start program and improve teaching opportunities for all children. Teachers will learn to write lesson plans that will meet a wide range of students. Teachers will learn to analyze and use activities to work on the goals stated in a child's IFSP or IEP.

Teachers will learn strategies to determine when to teach a new skill and /or when to adapt the activity to accommodate for the child's disability. Teachers will learn strategies to include children with behavior problems by using a classroom structure that prevents behavior problems and targets the behavioral goals of the child with a disability.
